Summary

Regardless of advances in technology, effective communications remain critical in a Government contract setting. Join Tim Sullivan, Steve Daoust and Stephen Yuter as they discuss some of the problems they frequently encounter, how to deal with those problems, and how to avoid them in the future. Our speakers will break the Government contracting process into three distinct phases, Pre-Proposal, the Proposal Process, and Post-Award, and will focus on the communications challenges in each phase and best practices for overcoming them. They will discuss the most effective means of communication for each particular problem, the importance of tone, and the need to understand your audience. In these three 90-minute programs (October 4, October 11, and October 18), Tim, Steve and Stephen will discuss:

  1.  Pre-Proposal Communications
    1. General marketing activities (trade shows, industry days, white papers, one-on-one meetings, etc.)
    2. Responses to RFIs and other Government Inquiries
    3. Solicitation Questions

  2. The Proposal
    1. Initial proposal and cover sheet
    2. Responses to Government questions (Exchanges)
    3. Final Proposal Revisions
    4. Debriefings
  3. Post-Award Communications
    1. Requests for Approval (e.g., travel, substitution of key personnel, etc.)
    2. Requests for deviations vs. requests for waivers
    3. Contract Status Reports
    4. Notice of Change
    5. Request for Equitable Adjustment
    6. Claims and Certified Claims
    7. Problems

Because of the backgrounds of our three speakers, this discussion will shed light on this important topic from the viewpoints of the Government, the contractor, and a lawyer who deals with the consequences of a failure to communicate. Did you ever think you could watch a Government Contracts program that didn’t mention the FAR every two minutes but was still very valuable? This is your chance!
